The San Diego Hardtech 50 is our annual attempt to chart it: fifty companies, surveyed and published each year, that represent the frontier of what's being built here. It's not a ranking of who raised the most. It's a map of who's doing the hard, real work - the companies the rest of the ecosystem should know.
